THE ONES THAT GOT AWAY
While I'm trying not to have this attitude anymore, there are a few limited edition products from the past that I'm still really upset that I never got my hands on and I just wanted to share them.KAT VON D MI VIDA LOCA REMIX PALETTE
This palette came out for the holiday season in 2015 which was a little under a year before I got into makeup, but the hype for this palette throughout 2016 was massive - and I really wanted it because at the time this was revolutionary. I don't think I'd ever seen a rainbow palette before and I liked how this was set out like a colour wheel, it seemed so versatile and I loved the colour story. I lusted over this palette for years, knowing I couldn't buy it because the Kat Von D holiday collections are extremely limited edition and were always massively popular. Looking back, I think if I had bought this or somehow got my hands on it I would have loved it and used it to death, but there are things that bother me about the palette. There aren't the perfect colours for me - you would have to use multiple colours in a look because there aren't enough of each colour to create a monochromatic look unless you want to start mixing in black and white, the shimmers are all dark shades, and the packaging is huge and I wouldn't have been able to store it. I've seen a few people revisit this palette in the past two or so years and it seems like it didn't age well, the shades lost pigment over time and the quality just went downhill. Kat Von D's eyeshadow formula isn't my favourite anyway, so I guess I was better off not having it - although it is still beautiful.
KAT VON D PASTEL GOTH PALETTE
I still regret not buying this! I love pastels and this is just the most beautiful pastel rainbow palette I have ever seen - my only complaint is that there isn't a pink and that the blue could have been lighter. This palette came out in early 2017 which is right when I was getting into colourful makeup (I mean I always was, but I started wearing more colour in 2017). Pastels were really uncommon at this point in time so this palette was one of the most unique releases I'd ever seen, I loved the packaging and I thought the colour story was stunning. I've been on the hunt for pastels like these ever since this went away, but none have had quite the same effect as Pastel Goth. The Strobe Cosmetics Creepy Cute Palette was close, but just not close enough for me - the shades in it were more like pastel neons, and I wanted soft pastels. I bought the Linda Hallberg Spectral Palette and Jeffree Star Cosmetics Jawbreaker Palette as well as some of Colourpop's monochromatic nine pans last year so I'm pretty covered for pastels now, but I just feel like the Pastel Goth was such a perfect staple pastel palette. If this was ever re-released I would absolutely buy it because the amount of regret I have over this palette is ridiculous - although it would have been incredibly difficult to get this palette at the time so I can't really blame myself for missing out!
URBAN DECAY X JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT COLLECTION
Basquiat is one of my favourite artists and when this collection came out (mid-2017) I was sort of in my peak of loving art, especially 1980s New York art culture. I did pick up one lipstick from this collection, a yellow toned brown nude called Abstract, and I love it, what I regret is not buying more from the collection. I bought the lipstick at the store opening for the Canberra Mecca Maxima and I was with my friend Hannah, so at least I have a nice memory to go along with it. The other products in the collection were two eyeshadow palettes, a cheek palette, three eyeliners, and two other lipsticks. I loved the packaging of everything but the colour stories of the palettes didn't speak to me, and the cheek palette seemed too dark, I also didn't love the colours of the other lipsticks and wasn't interested in the eye liners because they didn't have special packaging. If I could go back in time I would buy the neutral eyeshadow palette because even though I don't really wear neutrals, I love the packaging and I would use it more than the colourful palette which just always looked a bit disjointed to me. I really love the packaging of the cheek palette too but I just would not have been able to make it work. This one really hurts because this is pretty much my dream collaboration, and I missed my chance with it - but it is good that I didn't buy something just for collectors sake.
