THOUGHTS
NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick 'Sandstorm'
Wore January 31st

I just don't like the Liquid Suedes. They're very thin and comfortable, but they don't dry down so they transfer and move around which makes them look patchy. Not five minutes after applying this I noticed that it looked sheer and patchy in the centre of my bottom lip because it had moved around. I don't see the point in a liquid lipstick that doesn't dry down (especially this formula) because they just don't stay put and are more high maintenance than a traditional bullet lipstick. Matte bullet lipsticks are near budge proof so why make a matte formula that's going to slip around? I don't understand it. I think this colour is beautiful but I never reach for this because I don't like the wand or the formula - and I'm sure I have this colour elsewhere in my collection.
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Mama'
Wore February 2nd

I don't know what possessed me to buy this colour because it's a brick red, and we all know that I hate reds. Of all the reds I have tried, this is the most flattering on me, but I still don't like it. This is another case of Colourpop having deceiving marketing imagery and descriptions. This is described as a burnt orange and is pictured as an orange, but that's just not how it looks in person. It may be that I'm very pale and have cool toned skin so colours look different on me than the models used, but I'd say there's more to it than that. Besides the fact that I hate red lipstick with a passion, this is also quite drying as the Ultra Matte line tend to be, so I just don't have a place for this in my collection anymore.
Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'Electric Feel'
Wore January 30th

I really love this colour, and this had a true matte finish! Very exciting for a bullet lipstick to be an actual matte, however I didn't wear lip balm underneath which I would typically do with any lipstick. Because I didn't wear a lip balm my lips did get very dry and flakey throughout the day. The lipstick held up pretty well through food but the longer the day went on the more it wore off just leaving a rim around the edges of my lips. Luckily, because this is a nude it wasn't the most horrendous I've ever looked. Unfortunately my bullet of Electric Feel is broken so it might not have a long life in my collection, but it is absolutely beautiful.
Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Longwear Lipstick 'Sell Out'
Wore January 17th

I just don't really love this lipstick. The colour is pretty but it's just like my natural lip colour but a little less saturated so I don't reach for it ever because I'd rather reach for a lighter nude over something that looks like my lips. This is a comfortable liquid lipstick and it is long lasting I just don't like the colour and I hate the scent. I also don't like the packaging, because it's so wide at the base it doesn't fit in my lipstick organiser which means it gets kept in a draw and then never gets used because I don't see it.
Napolean Perdis Liquid Lipstick 'Are You Joking?'
Wore February 12th

I think this colour is really cute, I love a grapey purple but I found this to be a bit patchy/streaky. The applicator is really hard and a weird chair shape that doesn't hold enough product. This also has a weird scent and it was really sticky while it was drying down. Once it had dried it felt really powdery and gross. It's more comfortable the longer you wear it as the powdery-ness goes away or you get used to it at least. I don't know, I just don't really like this, I love the colour but I really don't use it a whole lot and I don't like this formula.
Colourpop Creme Lippie Stix 'Boys Town'
Wore February 14th

I love the Colourpop lippie stix, but I'm moving away from the creme formula because I don't like how they're shiny but not shiny enough to give a glossy look. I also find them a little thick or heavy looking on the lips. I like this colour, but I don't think it suits me, it's just a bit too grey. I prefer brown nudes that are a bit warmer and more caramely. This was really comfortable and wore decently, but I always blot these before I eat because they transfer.
Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'OOUUUU!'
Wore February 6th
(Won't let me put text in the right box so my thoughts will go here.) I love a peachy orange lipstick but I just think this is a bit too yellow for me and it doesn't really suit my skin tone and makes my teeth look yellow. It's a nice formula, very comfortable, but I don't like the way this colour looks on me.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Baby Daddy'
Wore January 26th

I thought this colour would make me look a bit sickly but I think it was actually pretty flattering, it dries down darker than what you see in the tube so it's important to keep that in mind. I think this was a really interesting yellow toned brown nude, the only other thing in my collection in a similar colour is Abstract by Urban Decay, but they are very different. I found this to be pretty comfortable, it got a little drying but not so drying that I wanted to remove it. This lasted fairly well through oily food, it only wore off the inner part of my bottom lip and it did fade a little bit. I did reapply a second coat which did significantly darken the colour which I thought was interesting.
Colourpop Matte Lippie Stix 'Sike'
Wore February 8th

I like this colour and this was really comfortable, I liked the way it looked with this look but I think the colour is a bit too red toned than what I typically like to wear. It's more of a terracotta-coral-nude and I think I'd just prefer a different colour for everyday, because this did feel a bit bolder than a typical nude. I did blot this before eating and it did unfortunately leave a rim around the edges of my mouth and transfer onto my chin.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Diva'
Wore January 25th

I didn't think I would like Diva but I think I can actually pull the colour off! This was very comfortable, lasted well through eating, didn't get drying, and stayed looking perfect for hours! Was really impressed that a bright colour like this wore so well and didn't get patchy or fade throughout the day. This felt so lightweight it was as if I didn't have anything on my lips!

The bonus lip products I used this round were:

THOUGHTS
Essence Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Lip Gloss 'Let's Pumpkin Up'

Wore January 16th
When I first put this on I thought it was a bit too frosty for me, but I did like the colour. It initially didn't last very long because I ate and we all know how glosses just disappear if you have a little food, and it did also transfer onto my chin. However I reapplied and didn't eat for a few hours and it lasted fairly well. The glossyness slowly fades away into more of a cream finish and the colour did migrate a little bit to the outer rim of the lips but it didn't look horrendous because this is a sheer gloss. The pigment in it moves around but the glitter stays put. I found this to be very comfortable, hydrating, and the scent/taste wasn't as strong as my other Essence gloss.
Colourpop Creme Lippie Stix 'Aquarius'

Wore January 23rd

I like this colour, and think it really suited my makeup on this particular occasion, but sometimes I don't like the way it looks. These days I've been moving away from cream finish lipsticks because I don't like how they wear or how they photograph. I just find that they can look really thick on the lips. I only wore this for a dinner so I can't say much about how it lasted because I blotted it off before eating which I've found is a necessity with the Colourpop lippie stix as they do transfer. This is a very comfortable lipstick and I do love how thin it is because it makes application really easy, however Aquarius is starting to get a bit melted.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Deceased'
(Won't let me put anything in the left box)

Wore February 9th, photo from a different day because I wasn't happy with my eye look today!!
I really love this lipstick, it's such a unique colour in my collection because it's like a purpley grey but it also has these browny tones in it. It really is a dead girl (but make it fashion) kinda lipstick. This is great as an everyday colour because it's neutral, but it also works as a statement lip. I think it goes really well with a variety of looks and I just love it. Wears really well, doesn't feel drying, stays looking good for hours. Of course with a liquid lip it's always best to avoid oily food because it will break it down but I find that you can reapply the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks and they don't get horrendously crunchy or dry.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Delicious'
(Won't let me put anything in middle box or put my thoughts below the image)

Wore February 13th as a liner

I love how this looked as a liner and I think that's how I'll mainly use this colour because it's just a bit dark for me to wear as a lipstick. Really easy to apply with a liner brush, didn't transfer or bleed and dried down really quickly! Feel like my shape is a little off but I'm really happy with the look. This is like Deceased's big sister, it's a bit darker and a bit more purple but they are fairly similar. I prefer Deceased just because it's lighter and I prefer lighter lipsticks, but Delicious makes a gorgeous liner.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Chalk and Roll'

Wore February 15th
Of course.... it won't let me put anything in the right box. I wore a lip balm under this so it didn't really dry down, but I feel like you need a lip balm under these lipsticks because they're so drying. I wasn't a huge fan of the colour on me, but if I'm going to reach for a colour like this it will probably be in a liquid lipstick form. The Ultra Mattes can be pretty drying and a colour like this doesn't wear gracefully so I'm really on the fence about it. I don't know if I can see myself incorporating this colour into many looks. I was trying a look with little snakes around my eyes here and wasn't totally happy with the result so that's why the picture is weirdly formatted!
Jeffree Star Lip Ammunition 'Jeffree's Girl'
Wore February 17th

This didn't look as horrible on me as I thought it would, but I think that's due to the eye makeup I paired with this. It's a very pigmented lipstick, you only need one swipe to fully cover an area, but the bullet is quite firm because it is a matte which can make these a little drying. They also have a weird plasticy smell that I don't like. I'll be keeping this around because it's a good lipstick and I love the packaging, even if I don't love the colour. This is one to keep around for costumes I think.

I feel like I'm shifting my preferences for lip products at the moment. I've been gravitating towards a more blotted, soft matte look as opposed to a cream finish and I've been loving glosses too. I just find that cream lipsticks can look really thick on the lips and in photos they look too glossy but not glossy enough for it too look like a lip gloss, y'know? I'm just not a huge fan of the cream lipsticks look at the moment which is why I've been opting to wear them more blotted. I don't know if this will really alter my decision making process when deciding what to keep and what to get rid of, but I thought I should mention it. Preferences are always changing though so I shouldn't make too many drastic decisions!! I also am moving away from dark colours, not that I have many in my collection to begin with, but as we get towards the end of this project I'm left with all my darker lipsticks that I haven't wanted to wear because I just don't like them. These shifts in my preferences are something I really want to keep in mind as I purchase things in the future.

Items I'm decluttering:
  • Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick in Sell Out because I don't love the colour, scent, or packaging and I have a friend that I know wants this colour so I'd much prefer they had it over me. It does sting a little bit to get rid of this because I bought it for myself as a birthday present last year and it was pretty expensive, but I never ever use it.
  • NYX Liquid Suede in Sandstorm because I never reach for it and don't like the formula.
  • Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Mama because I don't like red lipstick, and never ever reach for this because it's a brick tone that I just don't have a use for. This also isn't a favourite formula of mine.
  • Colourpop Lux Lipstick in OOUUUU! because it doesn't suit my skin tone and makes me look kinda sick. I can't believe I'm giving up a peach lipstick but it just doesn't look good on me.
  • Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Chalk & Roll because I know I don't really like blue-y greys on me, and this formula isn't my favourite either. I'd much prefer to have a grey in the Jeffree Star formula because I trust it, and it's eye safe so I don't necessarily have to use it as lipstick. I just don't ever reach for this colour because I generally prefer to wear bold eyes and a softer lip, and on the occasion that I want bold eyes and lips (or soft eyes and a bold lip), I'm not going to reach for a grey because it's just not as fun to me as an orange or hot pink or purple.
  • Napolean Perdis Liquid Lipstick in Are You Joking because although I love the colour, I don't like the texture, applicator, or scent. It's also just not something I reach for a whole lot.
  • Colourpop Lippie Stix in Boys Town because the colour doesn't really suit me.
The colours I've selected for next round are:

  • Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Class Pet'
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Crocodile Tears'
  • NYX Liquid Suede 'Stone Fox'
  • Fenty Beauty Mattemoiselle Plush Matte Lipstick 'Freckle Fiesta'
  • MAC Powder Kiss Lipstick 'My Tweedy'
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Family Jewels'
  • Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'Quickie'
  • Tony Moly Delight Tony Tint '03'
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Problematic'
  • Colourpop Matte Lippie Stix 'Lumiere'
Is my arm stained in the swatch photos? Yes. Are my swatches uneven? Yes! But you know what, I'm actually happy with the colour story this round so no one is allowed to call me out on my bad swatches. I know it's not the most cohesive colour story but I feel like a lot of these go together and I like to have variety so if I was wearing all dark colours I would get really sick of doing this.
Because we're going into Autumn I wanted to pull out some of the colours I don't really like to wear in the warmer months, like my darker browns and blues, but I still wanted some colours I know I love year round so I've got some peaches and oranges as well. I'm excited to use these colours and I'm excited to announce that the project is nearly over! Only 24 more lip products to go!! (For now anyway, I'll most likely get some lip products for my birthday so this number will go up... but we're still nearly there!)
