DECLUTTER
This year I'm keeping track of how many beauty products I use up in a year through my empties, and I'm keeping note of how much all my empties are worth. But using up products isn't the only way they're moving out of my collection, I'm also decluttering and giving products to my friends and family. Other items in my collection that were old got thrown out because they were definitely expired. So, I figured I would keep a running total of the monetary value (approximately) of what I've decluttered, I will also be mentioning why I decluttered each item. I'm keeping a record of all of this so I can make better purchasing decisions in the future, and have a curated collection that I love and use.- Colourpop No Filter Foundation 'Fair 05' ($16.20) - This is labelled as a neutral foundation but it pulls way too yellow on my skin. The colour is right (as in, it's pale enough), but the tone is way off and makes me look sick.
- E.l.f. Flawless Finish Foundation 'Porcelain' ($16) - This foundation was too yellow and too dark for me, and I didn't like the way it sat on my skin.
- Wet n Wild Photofocus Foundation 'Shell Ivory' ($15) - Again, too dark and yellow for me, and it was just too thick for me. Also hated that it had a paddle rather than a pump.
- Essence Camouflage Concealer 'Nude' ($5.10) - Too yellow for me, and it stung my under-eyes.
- Colourpop No Filter Concealer 'Fair Neutral 10' ($7.60) - I know they've since changed the names of the shades so I'm not sure what this corresponds to in the new line but this is absolutely too dark for me. It looks like a decent match in the tube but applied it oxidises so quickly and turns very orange - it's way too yellow toned for my skin and is just too dark.
- L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer 'Porcelain' ($12) - Too yellow for me, and I have so many other concealers that I'm going to reach for before this because it has a weird brush applicator.
- Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Concealer 'Fair' ($18.95) - This concealer was absolutely the wrong colour for me, it looked almost green underneath my eyes because of it's strong yellow undertone.
- Physician's Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls 'Beige Pearl' ($30) - I used this as an all over powder when I was just getting into makeup and I have two issues with it, it's too dark, and it's too glowy to look flattering as an all over face powder. I just find it a bit of a confusing product.
- Revlon PhotoReady Powder 'Fair Light' ($36.95) - This powder was too dark for me - from now on I think I'm just going to buy translucent powders because coloured powders just haven't been on my side.
- Clinique Blushing Blush Powder Blush 'Bashful Plum' ($0 - GIFT WITH PURCHASE) - The tone of this (beige-purple) looked muddy on my skin and I didn't like the shimmer in it.
- Essence Matt Touch Blush 'Peach Me Up' ($5.10) - This just doesn't look right on me, I don't love the colour and it doesn't blend all that well so it looks patchy on me. My brush might be the issue but because I'm not crazy about the colour I'm happy to part with this.
- NYX Ombre Blush 'Mauve Me' ($17.95 - GIFTED TO ME) - Purple toned blushes just don't work on my skin and this had shimmer which I also don't love.
- E.l.f. All Over Colour Stick 'Pink Lemonade' ($3) - Way too pigmented, sticky, difficult to blend, and has such a strong shimmer that it's not flattering on the lips or cheeks.
- Clinique True Bronze Pressed Powder Bronzer 'Sunkissed' ($0 - GIFT WITH PURCHASE) - Too shimmery and looked muddy on my skin.
- E.l.f. Contouring Blush & Bronzer Duo 'St. Lucia' ($12) - Both the bronzer and blush were too dark for me, and had a strong gold shimmer running through them that wasn't flattering.
- Ofra Blush/Bronzer 'Format' (GIFTED TO ME - $0) - This colour was just a bit orange on my skin so I'd rather someone else had it that would be able to get more use out of it!
- Fenty Beauty Match Stix Shimmer Skin Stick 'Starstruck' ($37) - Bought this hoping it would be similar to the Maybelline Master Strobing Stick in 'Light/Iridescent', and while it was similar in tone the formulas could not be more different. The Fenty is dry, it tugs at the skin, doesn't blend well, and is extremely glittery. I really didn't like it and am disappointed I spent so much on it.
- Jeffree Star Skin Frost 'King Tut' (GIFTED TO ME - $43) - I got this in my goody bag at Princess Polly live and I was so excited but it's just too dark for my skin!
- KPOP x Australis Highlight ($10) - Too subtle for my liking, and was straight up yellow rather than gold.
- NYX Illuminator 'Narcissistic' ($17.95) - Too subtle for me, and very similar in colour to Jeffree Star Cosmetics' Skin Frost in 'Peach Goddess' which I prefer.
- Colourpop Pressed Powder Shadow 'Soft Core' ($6.30) - I actually like Soft Core and the Colourpop pressed powder eyeshadows in general, but I recently bought the Ooh La La palette which has Soft Core in it and I really don't need two of the same shade, especially when it's a pink.
- Essence My Must Haves Single Eyeshadow 'Have a N'ice Day!' ($2.50) - I don't know what I was thinking when I bought this colour, it's an icy pale blue that I just never use.
- Essence My Must Haves Single Eyeshadow 'Dare to Wear!' ($2.50) - This is a weird cobalt blue shade that I never reach for and I feel like if I do want something like this I'd prefer to use something in one of my palettes.
- Maybelline Colour Tattoo 24H Metal Eyeshadow ($11.95) - This was a beautiful, smooth, metallic cool-toned pink cream shadow, I just never used it. Might purchase a different colour from this range because I liked the look they gave I just didn't reach for this colour.
- Morphe Single Shadow 'Aloha' ($3.50) - This is hands down the worst eyeshadow I have ever used. No pigment picks up on a brush or with a finger, it's like it was pressed to hard or it has some weird oil in it that seals it up. It's a beautiful colour but it's just unusable.
- Morphe Single Shadow 'Fiesta' ($3.50) - I have a dupe of this pink from Colourpop that I prefer.
- Morphe Single Shadow 'Flame' ($3.50) - I have an orange single shadow from Colourpop that is an exact colour dupe to this that is more pigmented and softer, I just prefer the Colourpop shadows.
- Morphe Single Shadow 'Sunflower' ($3.50) - I have other yellows in my collection that I prefer over this. Sunflower is a bit too cool toned and I would rather just use the yellows I have in palettes.
- Essence Eye & Face Palette 'Glow For It' ($8.20) - I wasn't getting any use out of this palette anymore, the only shade in it that I liked was the highlighter and I hadn't touched that in over six months.
- Clinique Colour Surge Eyeshadow Duo 'Strawberry Fudge' ($0 - GIFT WITH PURCHASE) - This was a duplicate in my collection, I've got the same duo with a blush in a little compact that I use more often.
- Okalan Matte Eyeshadow Palette (Venus I dupe) ($17.70) - I have the Lime Crime Venus palette in my collection now so I don't need this anymore.
- Too Faced Peanut Butter and Honey Palette ($52) - I just never use this palette and when I do I find it chalky and difficult to work with. It was a regrettable purchase for sure. The shades just aren't pigmented and... bad.
- In Your Dreams Chunky Cosmetic Glitter 'Iridescent Mermaid' ($10) - I had only ever used this once in a whole year of owning it and I just didn't really love the shape of the glitter or the effect it gave.
- The Gypsy Shrine Cosmetic Glitter 'Amethyst Diamond' (GIFTED TO ME - $0) - Another item I got in my Princess Polly Live goody bag, I just don't use loose glitters especially glitters that are marketed as festival items. Not my thing.
- Designer Brands Brow Pen 'Brunette' ($11 - GIFTED TO ME) - Not the type of product I reach for, I prefer to use gels in my eyebrows.
- Italia Deluxe Ultra Fine Eyeliner 'Neon Blue' ($3.80) - I loved the colour of this pencil but it didn't last in my waterline and when I decluttered it I hadn't used it in over six months.
- Essence Kajal Pencil 'Feel the Mari-time' ($2) - Not a colour I reach for often enough to justify keeping.
- Essence Long Lasting Eye Pencil 'Tu-Tu-Turquoise' ($3.05) - This pencil has shimmer in it which I didn't like the effect of in my waterline.
- NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil 'Strawberry Milk' ($9.95) - This didn't show up in my waterline at all, I hated the packaging (it was impossible to take the lid off), and I have other eye shadow bases I prefer.
- Boe Beauty Lip Liner Pencil ($2) - Too hard, pulled on my lips, and was a really bright pink colour that I just don't use.
- Italia Deluxe Lip Liner 'Soft Pink' ($2.50) - This is a hot pink lip liner and I just don't own anything that goes with it, nor do I find it flattering with my skin tone.
- NYX Retractable Lip Liner 'Peony' ($9.95) - Another pencil that had shimmer in it. Why??? Who wants glitter in their lip liner?
- Arbonne Glossed Over Lip Gloss 'Primrose' ($40 - GIFTED TO ME) - This was a Christmas present maybe two years ago and I've just never used it, I don't like the colour or the texture of it. I find that it's too thick and milky so I can't layer it over other lip products but it's too sheer to wear alone.
- Essence Shine Shine Shine Wet Look Lip Gloss ($4.10) - I don't know the name of the colour of this lip gloss but it's a shimmery brown nude and I just don't like the way it looks on me. I've found that I don't love cool toned glosses because they make me look kind of dead.
- Korres Raspberry Lipgloss '30' ($0 - GIFTED TO ME) - I have had this product so long I don't even know where it came from, who gave it to me, or how long I've had it. I don't know if it's the full size or a deluxe size sample so I haven't included a price (I also can't find exact listings for this product that still exist). I did really love this gloss, it was a beautiful nude warm brown colour and it wasn't sticky, had a beautiful vanilla scent but unfortunately the scent has changed so I know it has expired.
- Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss 'Mauve Crystal' ($22.95) - This was so old that I don't even know where it came from, I know I didn't buy it for myself. Got rid of it because of it's age.
- Hurraw! Black Cherry Tinted Lip Balm ($6.75) - The scent of this was so strong it was nauseating, and it didn't moisturise my lips at all, it just left them flakey, cracked, and dry.
- Colourpop Matte X Lippie Stix 'Climax' ($6.95) - Climax was a deep blue-purple that I never ever reach for, so she had to go.
- Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'Getty' ($9.10) - I got this hoping it would be a dupe (in colour) for Jeffree Star Cosmetics' Velour Liquid Lipstick in 'Mermaid Blood', and even if it was, I discovered that the colour didn't suit me at all so it really didn't matter if it was a dupe or not.
- Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'LA Lady' ($8.90) - The marketing photos for this shade made it look deceptively mauvey and it's actually very red toned. I just don't find the colour flattering on my skin at all.
- Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Lovebug' ($7.60) - While I love Colourpop and hoard most of their products, this colour is just too dark for me, and I don't love the red tone of it.
- Colourpop x Kathleen Light Ultra Satin Lip 'Dreamy' ($8.50) - This colour just isn't flattering on me, it's too red and I don't reach for it because I just look bad in it.
- Essence Matt Matt Matt Lipstick '3' ($4.70) - This was a berry shade and I just didn't like the way it looked on my lips.
- Essence Long Lasting Lipstick '7' ($4.70) - This was a bubblegum pink that looked awful on me, I don't even know what I was thinking when I bought it.
- Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long Lasting Lipstick 'Bois de Rose' ($0 - GIFTED TO ME) - Expired! Looked bad on me anyway!!
- Estee Lauder Pure Colour Long Lasting Lipstick 'Rose Tea' ($0 - GIFTED TO ME) - Expired!!
- Estee Lauder Pure Colour Envy Sculpting Lipstick 'Dynamic' ($0 - GIFTED TO ME) - I didn't like the way this colour looked on me so I never reached for it and it expired! Fun!!!
- NYX Liquid Suede 'Orange County' ($14.95) - While I love orange lipsticks, this was literally traffic cone orange. It was just too bright for me.
- Rimmel Lasting Finish By Kate Lipstick 'Boho Nude' ($13.95) - I loved this colour but the scent changed and it just wasn't pleasant to wear anymore.
- Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss 'Snow Pink' ($22.95 - GIFTED TO ME) - I just didn't love this gloss, it was too glittery for me and didn't feel hydrating.
- Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick 'Perla' ($0 - DELUXE SIZE SAMPLE) - I liked the colour of this, but I never reach for it and I don't love the formula so there's no use keeping something I won't use!
- Urban Decay x Kristen Leanne Vice Lipstick 'Bun Bun' ($15) - I used so much of this lipstick and I just never liked it. The colour didn't suit me, the formula was drying, and I just wasn't happy with it whatsoever.
- Sally Hansen Crackle Overcoat 'Snow Blast' ($9.95 - GIFTED TO ME) - I'm not a fan of white polish and this was no exception.
- Sinful Colours Sinful Shine Nail Polish 'Bananappeal' ($4.95) - This was just too thick for me which was a shame because I did love the colour.
- Revlon Nail Enamel 'Sultry' ($13.95 - GIFTED TO ME) - This takes four coats to be opaque and even then it looks bad, I'm just not about that.
- Rimmel x Rita Ora 60 Seconds Super Shine 'My Grey' ($5.95) - This pulled too blue on my skin and I wanted it to be more of a true slate/charcoal grey.
- Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine 'Oragasm' ($5.95) - This was another duplicate I had because I accidentally bought two, and knowing how long it takes me to finish a nail polish I decided it was better off going to another home.
- Rimmel 60 Seconds Super Shine 'Camo Girl' ($5.95) - I hated the colour of this on my nails, it was like an army green but on me it just looked to dark and I just don't gravitate towards dark colours on my nails.
- Maybelline Colour Show 60 Seconds 'Blackout' ($5.95) - The formula on this was fine and everything I just really don't like the way I look in black nail polish anymore.
- Kester Black Nail Polish 'Paradise Punch' ($20) - On the Kester Black website this colour looks like a beautiful peachy subdued orange, but when it arrived it was literally neon, and I can't pull off neons.
- Essence The Gel Polish 'Love is in the Air' ($3.25) - This was a yellow but it was too cool and pastel for me, I prefer a warmer yellow.
- Essence The Gel Polish 'My Love Diary' ($3.25) - This was like a weird burgundy-pink-wine colour that I didn't find flattering at all.
Total value of items decluttered: $743.45
