Mini Project Lip Products: Round 1

PROJECT LIP PRODUCTS

Since I've already gone through my entire collection, I've decided to just do mini posts here and there with the new lip products that I get. I'll probably wait until I have 4-6 before I make a post.

The colour scheme for this round:

JUNE - AUGUST

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Gingham'
Wore August 2nd over a lip liner

Colourpop are reformulating their matte formula and released new colours with the new formula (this is one of them) so I bought this just to see what the difference is between the old and new formula. While this wasn't as drying as the old ultra mattes, I still felt it make my lips dry the second it dried down, which I don't experience when I wear my Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks. It felt dry throughout the day, but not in a painful way like the others do. I don't really like this colour, it's a bit too red for me I think and it just doesn't suit any look I seem to pair it with. I've tried wearing this a couple of times and always take it off because it never goes with my eye makeup.
MAC Lustre Lipstick 'The Naturalist'
Wore June 28th over a lip liner

This had a bit of a weird taste, it was a little play-doughy which wasn't pleasant. I do like the colour and the finish, and this was very comfortable it was just the scent/taste that bothers me. Because it is so creamy it didn't wear super well, I blotted it before eating and had to reapply because it will absolutely transfer and get everywhere.
Colourpop So Juicy Plumping Gloss 'For the Clout'
Wore August 5th over a lip liner

I don't like that this gloss is creamy, I much prefer sheer glosses with glitter and I thought that was what this was going to be. It's still glittery, but it's not the same effect.  I just find creamy glosses look patchy and they settle into the lines of your lips and look gross. This gloss is really comfortable though, and I like the colour. It wore pretty well because of how thick the gloss is, but it never feels sticky which is great. These glosses don't actually plump, and this one didn't even tingle, but the other shade I have does tingle slightly because of the mint. I like this gloss, but it's not my first choice of lip gloss just because it's creamy.
MAC Matte Lipstick 'Velvet Teddy'
Wore August 4th

This is very comfortable for a matte lipstick, it feels kind of hydrating and there's definitely some slip. Maybe I'm just used to liquid lipsticks now so bullet lipsticks feel hydrating but I don't know. I really like the colour of this, I don't typically go for a darker nude but with this eye look I think it's really grungey and cool.

THOUGHTS
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Christmas Cookie'
 Wore July 31st

I absolutely love this colour, it such a pretty neutral nude!! It was super easy to apply like all the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, and it wore really well too. I ate oily food and had a cup of tea and it only really wore off the inner rim of my mouth, and barely at all. It was super comfortable the whole time I wore it and didn't get crunchy at all. So happy with it!
Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Matte Long Wear Lipstick 'Gingerbread Man'
Wore August 30th as an eyeliner

I'm not super happy with this photo - this looked really different (and a lot better) in person so it's disappointing that it looks so washed out here. I don't know if these liquid lipsticks are eye safe, but I'm willing to risk it for this colour. I think as a lipstick this is a little too dark for me, but it is a colour that really suits my skin tone, eye colour, and hair colour. It worked really well as an eyeliner, the only thing that really concerned me was the fragrance. I have decluttered Too Faced liquid lipsticks in the past because I found the scent too strong, and this one isn't an exception. I can tolerate this one a bit more than the usual scent, but I still don't love how long it lingers. I can't really imagine myself getting a lot of wear out of this colour because it's kind of limiting as to what you can pair with it, especially when I don't wear neutrals.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Fully Nude'
Wore August 28th over a lip liner

I love this colour, it's a really beautiful bright peach nude that I think really suits my skin tone. This was super comfortable, didn't feel drying at all, and lasted really well (even through oily food). The only area it really wore off was the very centre of my bottom lip, and it was barely noticeable. We all know I love the Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, and I'm really happy I picked up this colour because I think it might be a new favourite for me. I love warm nudes and peaches and this is like the perfect blend.
Nars Velvet Lip Glide 'Bound'
Wore August 1st layered over Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Scandal

For a liquid lipstick that's not matte, I actually really like this. In the past I've had bad luck with lipsticks like these (NYX Liquid Suedes), but this one is really different. It's super smooth and applies like a lip gloss but doesn't feel thick at all. It's very pigmented, and leaves a subtle glossy shine on the lips. I don't think this truly dries down but I don't mind that because it's very comfortable and I don't feel like I'm going to make a mess of it. This was really hydrating as well which was great! My lips didn't feel dry or stripped when I removed my makeup.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics The Gloss 'Wet Peach'
Wore August 15th over a lip liner

I really like this gloss, I love the colour and the glitter in it is so beautiful. There's a mix of blue and gold and maybe even purple? It's so pretty. I liked the scent, and it dissipated really quickly which is great because I hate when you can almost taste lip products because the scent is too strong. This wasn't thick or sticky at all, it felt super smooth and thin - my lips felt hydrated and plush with this gloss on. It did wear off while eating which was to be expected, but left some glitter behind on the lips. I'm really glad I bought this because it's so beautiful, wearable, and comfortable.

Items I'm decluttering:
  • Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip in Gingham because I'm not a fan of the colour

August Favourites

FAVOURITES

MAKEUP

  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics The Gloss 'Wet Peach' - I've been really into gloss lately, I just like how easy it is and this gloss is literally everything I've ever wanted. This is what I wanted my Too Faced Rich & Dazzling gloss to be like. It's thin, not sticky, hydrating, makes my lips look plush????? I love the colour, it's a sheer peach with glitter that's purple, blue, gold.... she's beautiful. The best thing about this gloss is how comfortable and hydrating it is, I've never tried a gloss that feels as good as this one. I just love it.
  • Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder - This powder is really beautiful, it's super finely milled so it doesn't look cakey and crunchy on the face which is super important to me because my skin is so dry. This is also great for longevity, it keeps my foundation looking perfect all day, it properly sets my base so brushes don't disrupt anything and my foundation doesn't transfer. I can understand why this used to get so much hype now, because it's just about the first powder that I've been really impressed with.
  • Colourpop Creme Gel Liners - I really love these liners, their lasting power is really impressive for something that I wear on my waterline most of the time. Even if I wear these as a winged liner on my lid, they don't smudge or get in my tear duct and transfer, they're really budge-proof and the colours are stunning. I don't love all the colours I own, but I still use them because they all perform pretty well. I much prefer these to the Creme Gel Colours because these are just easier to work with and the formula is better.

August Wishlist

WISHLIST

I've decided to go on a low-buy until Christmas (at least). I'm letting myself buy one item per month but I'm still allowed to buy things for my kit. My low buy purchase for August was the Linda Hallberg Spectral Palette, because I've been wanting it since it came out and their website was having 50% off palettes! I wouldn't have bought this at full price so I'm really glad to get it on a sale, I thought this would be something I'd never get my hands on.

EYES
  • Natasha Denona Gold Palette - I know that I don't need this, and it's so ridiculously expensive, but I really want it. I even thought this palette was stupid when it came out because I hate gold, but recently I have a new found love for gold eyeshadow and think this could be my special occasion palette.

LIPS

  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lip Ammunition in Candy Freeze and Yummy - These are sheer glitter topper lipsticks, Yummy has a purple glitter and Candy Freeze has pink. On their own I would never wear them, but I think over the top of a liquid lipstick just in the centre of the lips these would be so pretty just to add some shimmer. I'm worried they might be too frosty, but they look beautiful on Jeffree so I don't know.

July Empties

EMPTIES

  • Clinique Dramatically Different Hydrating Jelly (SAMPLE) - I like this moisturiser for use before makeup, but I don't think it's enough for an everyday moisturiser for me because my skin is so dry. I don't think I would buy the full size of this, but I would happily use samples.
  • Benefit Gimme Brow Brow Volumizing Fibre Gel '5 Deep'  ($43.00) - I have had this for way too long now, but it's finally dried out so it's time to say goodbye. I really love Gimme Brow, but I don't think I would repurchase it, especially because it's more expensive now than it used to be. I've tried the Essence Make Me Brow and while it does give the same effect, I don't like it as much because it has a scratchy brush! I think if I'm going to get another tinted brow gel (which I don't really need), it'll be the Lime Crime Bushy Brow Gel.
  • Keune Curl Cream 200mL ($27.00) - I really love this, when I run out I have no motivation to do my hair because this is the only thing that does a good job of enhancing my curls. I wish it had a stronger hold, but I guess I need to start layering products for that. I've repurchased this already so I can happily do my hair again.
  • Origins Clear Improvement Mask (SAMPLE) - I really liked this mask, it smelled like honey and it was a great smooth consistency that made it really easy to apply. I'm usually pretty weary of clay masks because my skin is so sensitive and I've had quite a few irritate my skin in the past, but this one was beautiful. It didn't give a suggested time to leave it on for but I went for 20 minutes and it dried down completely, it tightened a bit as it dried but it wasn't uncomfortable at any point - it felt really nice on the skin! It didn't irritate my skin at all, was super easy to remove, and it left my skin feeling really clean, firm, fresh, and I think I looked glowy too. I would consider buying the full size of this, but I'm not one to mask very often so it might be a bit of a waste, but I did really like this.
  • Smashbox Photo Finish Primerizer (SAMPLE) - I really like this primer, it's like a hydration boost for my skin and my foundation glides over it super easily. This sample was from a Beauty Loop box so it was a really good size (4ml), I used this little guy while I was travelling because it was so mini. I already own the travel size of this primer but it is something I would repurchase because I like it.
  • Sally Hansen Strengthening Nail Polish Remover 150mL ($5.95) - This was fine, but not anything special. I don't think it was quite strong enough for me and it took a little longer than I would like to remove my polish (especially shimmers). I don't know if I would repurchase this.
Total value of products used up: $75.95
