January Empties

EMPTIES

As I mentioned in my yearly empties, I'm going to take a different approach this year and do monthly posts rather than just whenever I reach ten products. I'll be including skincare, hair care, and makeup (no deoderant this year), but will only be holding onto makeup for my end of year empties. Hoarding everything just took up too much space so I don't want to do it again this year. I think I'll also include the value of individual products as well as a total value for this year. The value is an approximation, and I go by how much the value would be if I were to repurchase the items at full retail value, not necessarily how much I spent on them.

  • Lush Intergalactic Bath Bomb ($8.95) - I really liked this bath bomb, the colour was this beautiful deep blue that looked black but when the light hit it it became teal and was full of shimmer, it really looked like the night sky. I can't really say anything about the scent because I mixed this with a bubble bar, but I liked the effect in the water and it felt really nourishing and soothing! Left my skin feeling very soft, didn't leave a sticky feeling on my skin and didn't stain the bath!
  • Lush Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar ($8.95) - This was much bubblier than I was expecting, although I don't really know what I was expecting from a product that's marketed for bubble baths. This turned the water a really pretty pink colour and foamed up heaps, I had to keep moving bubbles around to avoid them piling up too high! I really enjoyed using this and look forward to trying out the other bubble bars in my little Lush collection.
  • 16 Brand 16 Garden Toks Mask Peppermint Tea ($2) - I really like the 16 Brand masks because they're cheap, but very hydrating - and that's all I want a sheet mask to do really. I like the peppermint one in particular because it's refreshing and as it's been so hot lately this was a lifesaver!
  • Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara Mini 4.8g ($17) - I fell in love with this mascara, it's the most lengthening, volumising mascara I have ever used! Whenever I wear this people ask if I'm wearing false lashes because of how long and full it makes my lashes look. Will definitely be repurchasing in the future, this is my new holy grail and I'm very sad to be retiring it to the empties bin but it's been about 4 months and it has started to irritate my eyes because it's been open too long.
  • Neutrogena Makeup Remover Night Calming Cleansing Towelettes 25 Pack ($7.99) - These are still my favourite makeup remover wipes because they actually stay moist enough to remove a full face of makeup so I don't have to really rub at my skin which means my skin isn't being irritated! These are very gentle and I've never had an issue with them on my sensitive skin. I always stock up on these when they're on sale because I never wanna be without them!
  • OXX Morning Buzz Cucumber & Green Tea Extract Sheet Eye Mask ($2) - These really just don't do anything, I much prefer a hydrogel mask for my eyes because they hold more moisture and are more hydrating. These didn't sit well over the eyes and weren't wet enough to actually provide any hydration. Won't be repurchasing.
  • Lush Golden Egg Bath Bomb Melt ($8.50) - This was really nice, it felt moisturising on my skin and I liked the glitter and the colour it turned the water. It was a lemony yellow with beautiful gold glitter, unfortunately it did stain my skin a little bit but nothing too bad. I would buy this again but this is an item that is only available around Easter which is a shame.
  • Neutrogena Hyrdo Boost Hydrating Hydrogel Mask ($5.99) - I really liked this mask, it was very hydrating and left my skin feeling really plump. There was heaps of serum with this mask so it's definitely worth the money, and I like that it's a hydrogel because it stays on the face better than a traditional sheet mask. Would definitely repurchase.
  • Napolean Perdis Nail Polish 'Gold Finch' ($19.00) - I have had this nail polish for a very long time, I know it was a gift but I have no idea who it was from I've had it for that long. I wasn't a huge fan of the colour, it was a bit too dark for what I like in a nude polish, and I didn't see the point to the shimmer in the polish because it's not visible on the nail. This would chip on me fairly quickly, and I found the polish itself was quite tacky so it would smudge easily when drying. Definitely not my favourite nail polish formula and not something I would repurchase.
  • Morphe Flawless Beauty Sponge ($11.00) - I didn't like this sponge, it was too firm for me and the shape sucked, it would also bleed colour when I cleaned it, like the dye from the sponge would wash out which concerned me. I also don't think it did a very good job of blending my foundation in, because it was so firm it would lift product from areas it accidentally touched and it was just so frustrating to use. I've been using this for about three months and it's held it's shape really well and isn't missing any chunks or anything, but I think it is starting to grow mould. I noticed some little black spots on it while cleaning it that seem suspicious and I don't want to take the risk of continuing to use it. Besides, 3 months is about the recommended life of a sponge anyway so I suppose it was time for it to go anyway.
  • Privia New York Miracle Daily Mask Pack Hyaluronic Acid ($2.50) - This mask didn't fit my face very well but it did stick to my face decently. Did feel hydrating but nothing amazing, don't think I would repurchase this over other sheet masks. This was a traditional sheet mask not a hydrogel and gel masks are definitely my preference especially when it comes to hydrating masks.
  • Carmex Classic Moisturising Lip Balm 7.5g ($5.99) - Carmex continues to be my tried and true lip balm, it's just the most effective lip balm I've ever tried. I like how thick this is but it doesn't feel greasy, and it actually heals my lips rather than just drying them out more. Love this and will continue to buy it.
  • E.l.f. High Definition Undereye Setting Powder ($9.00) - This powder does the job and I don't really have any issue with it, but it is very tiny and I think I'd just prefer to buy bigger loose powders from here out so I get a better deal for my money.
  • Ardell Accent 301 Lashes ($10.99) - I really like these lashes because they lift my eyes and are easy to apply and comfortable because they are half lashes, I would recommend these for people who are just getting into false lashes because these are a great natural option. Would happily repurchase in the future, my only complaint is that the lashes aren't symmetrical and can look uneven on the eyes.

Project Lip Products: Round 3

PROJECT LIP PRODUCTS

The colour scheme for this round:

DECEMBER - JANUARY

THOUGHTS
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Leo'
Wore December 18th

This one didn't wear as well as my other Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, or maybe it was just more obvious that it was wearing away because it's a dark colour. This wore off quite a bit while eating and transferred onto my chin. My lips felt dry by the end of the day (but not too bad), and got quite crumbly after reapplying (2nd layer). This is still a comfortable lipstick, I just think what I was eating this day didn't agree with it.
Colourpop Ultra Glossy Lip 'Fantasia'
Wore December 14th
When I first bought this I didn't really like it but I think I was just pairing it with the wrong looks, because now I find it very flattering. It's a nude brown with subtle glitter in it and it's the same Colourpop gloss formula that I love. Very comfortable, long wearing (for a gloss), and wears away nicely because it's not super pigmented.
JD Glow Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick 'Busty Rusty'
Wore December 10th (over a lip liner)

I like this colour, but it's just a little too red that what I typically like in an orange. I still like it and think it suits me, but it's not my favourite. The formula is very comfortable, however when applying this burnt my lips a bit? This could just be because my lips have been pretty dry recently but I'm not sure, the sensation went away once the lipstick has dried anyway. This doesn't last well through food and did transfer onto my chin while eating which is frustrating.
Urban Decay Cream Vice Lipstick 'Abstract'
Wore December 23rd

I love this colour, but even if I didn't, I would never let go of this lipstick because it was part of the Basquiat collection (and he's one of my favourite artists). This lipstick is comfortable, I find the colour very flattering, wears away evenly and doesn't leave weird patches + it didn't transfer onto my chin while eating! I really love this lipstick and wish it was part of the permanent collection.
Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Times Square'
Wore December 17th

I really love this colour, and found this surprisingly comfortable for a Colourpop ultra matte! It didn't dry my lips out, and wore extremely well. I only reapplied once throughout the day and that was just to the inner rim of my lips. It didn't get crusty looking at all, I was actually very impressed.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Nathan'
Wore December 7th for my formal :-)

Nathan is hands down my favourite JSC lipstick, it's the perfect colour for me, the formula is amazing, it's super long lasting and just... the best. I wore this for roughly 10 hours and it was still looking fresh by the end of that period! It only wore off the inner rim of my lip, but still looked amazing. My lips didn't feel dry at all throughout the night, and I just couldn't be happier with Nathan!
Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip 'Echo Park'
Wore January 3rd
It's not letting me put my thoughts in the write box so they have to go here :/While this is a beautiful colour, everything I've previously said about the ultra satin formula still stands. If you blot this off it sticks to certain areas but completely comes off others, and if you don't blot it and just eat the same thing happens, however because this is a more neutral colour it isn't as noticeable, but I still don't think that should happen. This did wear away pretty badly as I ate and looked really patchy due to the way it wears, and it did transfer onto my chin. I find that the ultra satins sting my lips, but this might just be because my lips are dry, I'm not sure. I think I'll keep this for events where I won't be eating, but this might not survive much longer in my collection.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Yummy'
Wore January 2nd over a lip liner
I like this colour, but I don't love the finish of this lipstick. The glitter is pretty, but as the lipstick wears away the glitter stays which just looks messy, and this did wear away significantly as I ate. I don't think this is as good as my other Jeffree Star liquid lipsticks, I found this to be patchy and it didn't last as well as the mattes that I own. I will be keeping this because I think it would be pretty on the eyes, and I'm a bit of a Jeffree Star collector, but this wasn't my favourite from the line.
Nars Audacious Lipstick 'Vibeke'
Wore December 21st  (blotted)
Because I did blot this down it didn't wear super well through eating. However, this was very comfortable and easy enough to touch up. I'm not really understanding the hype around this line, but I'll wear this one some more and see if my thoughts change. I do love the colour though!
Colourpop Creme Lippie Stix 'I Like It'
Wore January 8th
I really like this colour and I already knew I loved the creme formula so this was a win all round. You do have to blot these before eating because they will transfer and wear away but they leave almost a stain behind after blotting which I like.

The bonus lip products I used this round were:

THOUGHTS
Lime Crime Plushies Soft Matte Lipstick 'Toasted Marshmallow'
Wore December 19th

I love this colour and the blotted effect of these, and they're super comfortable for a matte liquid lipstick! I think I'll definitely buy a couple more of these because this is such an easy to wear lip product. This didn't last well with food, but it didn't look too bad after wearing away because it is that sort of sheer colour that's pretty similar to my natural lip colour anyway. Easy to reapply, stays comfortable. I really enjoyed this.
Colourpop Matte Lippie Stix 'Parker'

Wore December 26th

This was really comfortable and long wearing, I just wish it was more matte than it is. It has more of a creme finish in my opinion which I don't love for a colour like this. This will transfer when eating so it's best to blot down before and reapply after, which is what I tend to do with most of my lippie stix because they're a convenient size to carry in a handbag.
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Lip Ammunition 'Allegedly'

Wore December 27th

This was super comfortable, which came as a surprise because applying this it felt quite firm as if it was going to be drying, but it wasn't! This was very pigmented, I only needed one swipe to get full opacity, and it wore really well too. It almost left a bit of a stain behind which is a bonus for me because it makes it less obvious that the lipstick has worn off. The only thing I didn't like about this was the scent, it's a little plasticy, but I can get past that because this is a great lipstick! This was my first time trying a lip ammunition and I couldn't be happier!
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Lip Liner 'Celebrity Skin'
Wore January 2nd under Yummy (shown on it's own)

This lip liner was the perfect balance between creamy and firm, it was really easy to use and very comfortable. I think it's a great colour and I didn't notice any issues with this! It didn't bleed or smudge, but I also can't say if it helped with the longevity of my lipstick or not. (I apologise for my wet hair in the picture!)
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Can't Relate'

Wore January 10th
Won't let me put my thoughts in the right spot so they'll have to be here:
I love this colour, it was very comfortable and lasted well just like my other Jeffree Star nudes. Couldn't be happier with this one!
Tony Moly Perfect Lips Shocking Lip Tint 'Orange Shocking'
Wore January 15th

I bought this because I'd heard it had amazing lasting power but I didn't find that to be the case. This didn't last through eating oily food, but it did stain my lips in some areas. The colour was very vibrant and the product was comfortable, but it did look red rather than orange in certain lights which I didn't like.

Items I'm decluttering:
  • Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park because I just don't love the ultra satin formula, I adore this colour but I just can't stand how high maintenance it is! A nude lip should be easy, and this isn't.
The colours I've selected for next round are:

  • NYX Liquid Suede Cream Lipstick 'Sandstorm'
  • Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip 'Mama'
  • Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'Electric Feel'
  • Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Longwear Lipstick 'Sell Out'
  • Napolean Perdis Liquid Lipstick 'Are You Joking?'
  • Colourpop Creme Lippie Stix 'Boys Town'
  • Colourpop Lux Lipstick 'OOUUUU!'
  • Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Baby Daddy'
  • Colourpop Matte Lippie Stix 'Sike'
  • Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick 'Diva'
This colour scheme is so ugly and mismatched but we're really getting to a point in this where nothing is cohesive at all because I've worn all my summery colours already so I'm left with a weird mix of things. But it's not like I'm wearing all of these at once so I suppose it doesn't matter.

I would also like to note that over Christmas I got quite a few new lipstick so my numbers have changed. In my collection there are currently 76 lip products, and so far I have decluttered 13 products from this collection since the beginning of this project - but because of the new products, my number is higher than what it should be if you're looking at the total I started with: 77. I will do a full breakdown of what I got rid of, kept, and brought into my collection in my finale for this project. New products will be going through this project as well.
